What the Fuck is with Those Ears?
This is fennec fox, and is the smallest fox in the world. They are typically only 9-16 inches long and weigh between 2 and 3 pounds.
Natives of the Sahara Desert, they are a light tan color with white bellies to blend in to the sandy environment. The giant ears, besides being fucking adorable, help them regulate their body temperatures and remain cool as they sleep during the day. They dig dens at the base of sand dunes where moisture accumulates. These dens are connected to one another as the foxes live in small communities of up to ten animals. Like many desert animals they do not require extensive amounts of drinking water; they can remain sufficiently hydrated from the plant and animal matter they consume.
Fennec foxes mate for life, gestate pups in 50 days, and produce liters of 2-4 cubs. They typically live for a decade in the wild and up to 13 years in captivity.
