Top 5 Most Ridiculous Comments: Ignorance Knows No Limits

#5) From Great Britain, at a place called the Wootton Wawen Social Club in Warwickshire, a water leak supposedly “baffled” the local water company. But then the clubfolk brought in dowsers, and with the power of the ideomotor effect, er, I mean dowsing, the leak miraculously turned up! A spokeswoman for The British Society of Dowsers gave us this week’s #5 ridiculous statement:
“Dowsing works – although we don’t know exactly why. It’s a gift that some people have.”
#4) Senator James Inhofe is convinced that global warming is a hoax, and he took to the Senate floor this week to reiterate his personal beliefs. His opinion is not based on anything scientific. And therefore, while objecting to a proposed resolution acknowledging the existence of global warming he said the earth had experienced “no warming for the last 15 years”, Senator Inhofe gives us this week’s #4 ridiculous comment.
#3) This one comes from a Facebook post I read last night. This is something I had never heard before, so I looked it up and surprise surprise – it is entirely wrong. But why should that stop a bigot’s hatred and vitriol? Needless to say, I unfriended this SGU listener and blocked them, but not before capturing the #3 ridiculous statement of the week:
“Benjamin Franklin warned Americans do not let Jews in the country. He said they are vampires that can not exist without leeching off the wealth and lands of others.”
#2) Personal Audio LLC are the folks (or folk) claiming they have the right to demand cash from every podcaster. In other words, Personal Audio LLC is a patent troll trying to extort the podcasting world – this is all the company does, they sue people. Most famously, they sued Adam Carolla, but bit off more than they can chew. They claim to have dropped their case against Carolla, but Carolla is keeping the battle going with counterclaims in hopes that the trolls will stop harassing others. The folks at Personal Audio LLC are quite upset, apparently they can dish it out but not take it very well. Their crybaby-whining makes this week’s #2 ridiculous comment:
“Perhaps this is because he feels he can simply get his fans to fund his future and, now unnecessary, legal expenses. Or perhaps it relates to how he uses the case as material for his show. The fact of the matter is that Adam Carolla is asking people to donate money to him for a lawsuit that he no longer needs to defend.”

#1) Ray Comfort, the man who believes that the banana PROVES the universe is a grand design by an omnipotent “Creator”, just can’t help himself. The #1 ridiculous comment is the sole property of Ray Comfort when he posted the following to his Facebook page:
“If the Bible isn’t God-inspired, explain why how the writer of the Book of Job knew 3,000 years ago that “The earth hangs upon nothing” (Job 26:7). It wasn’t until thousands of years later that science discovered that gravity doesn’t exist in space (as it does on earth), and that this massive earth does indeed hang upon nothing.”
Hangs upon nothing? Say, isn’t that the latest slogan for Intelligent Design?

there IS gravity in space!
There is gravity everywhere. It gives shape to the orbits of the planets, the solar system, and even galaxies. Gravity from the Sun reaches throughout the solar system and beyond, keeping the planets in their orbits. Gravity from Earth keeps the Moon and human-made satellites in orbit.
It is true that gravity decreases with distance, so it is possible to be far away from a planet or star and feel less gravity. But that doesn’t account for the weightless feeling that astronauts experience in space. The reason that astronauts feel weightless actually has to do with their position compared to their spaceship. We feel weight on Earth because gravity is pulling us down, while the floor or ground stop us from falling. We are pressed against it. Any ship in orbit around the Earth is falling slowly to Earth. Since the ship and the astronauts are falling at the same speed, the astronauts don’t press against anything, so they feel weightless.
This is just an other moment when ray comfort shows how stupid he really is.

If they didn’t miss the Earth, that would probly hurt a bit.
The reason why there is “weightlessness” in space is that the vessel and the astronaut are falling at the same rate. Since they are both in a circular orbit, they are constantly falling as they attempt to travel in an angle tangent to that circle. They both still have weight, but appear weightless because they are both falling.

The Benjamin Franklin antisemitic remark is from the Franklin Prophecy – an antisemitic speech that Franklin supposedly gave but has been repeatedly and repeatedly and repeatedly shown to be forged. If a little knowledge is dangerous, this guy is a nuclear bomb.

Actually, if Personal Audio wants to drop their lawsuit, they can drop it. Adam Carolla can’t stop them from doing it. They’re trying to convince people to stop help him fund his defense which is already up to $650k, and it hasn’t even gone to trial yet.
