We’ve been told by many listeners that they wish our show was longer in length. 80 minutes per week is not enough for some people. So what would we talk about if the show were longer? Well, lots of things, including more news items! There is always more news we can talk about on any given show, so it is a careful process of selection as to which news items make it to the show, and which ones don’t. The ones which do not make it hit the proverbial “cutting room floor”, so once again, here are a few of the news items which might have otherwise made the show if, say, our show was 100+ minutes in length.
Pope Francis said that guardian angels exist and people who listen to their advice are less likely to make the wrong decisions. “The doctrine on angels is not fantasist. No, it’s reality,” the pope said during his daily mass in the small chapel in his residence at the Vatican. “According to church tradition we all have an angel with us, who protects us and helps us understand things,” he said in a message to mark the Feast of the Guardian Angels, celebrated by Catholics on 2 October.
The Harvard-Smithsonian Center held a debate on whether or not Pluto should be reinstated as a planet. The debate centered around the International Astronomical Union’s demands of a planet that it must:
– be in orbit around the Sun,
– be round or nearly round, and
– be shown to have “cleared the neighborhood” around its orbit, be gravitationally dominant in its area — the big kid on the block.
The Cambridge Ghost Club is investigating the claims of an American mystic who has apparently photographed a goblin in his hair. John Sutton runs Transformation Talk Radio for a mystic organization known as ‘Psychic World’ and is their “resident Psychic-Clairvoyant”. After having his claims dismissed by “scientific skeptical experts” and photographic experts, Sutton contacted the historic Cambridge Ghost Club. Who knew Cambridge was a repository for ghost-related activities? This club has been around since 1885!
A massive feature on the moon formed due to lunar rifts, in a surprise revision to earlier theories, research shows. Previously, scientists thought the moon’s Ocean of Storms was a round crater left after a giant impact, but now researchers have found it is underlain by a giant rectangle created by cooling lunar lava as the moon formed.
