A few ridiculous items of note from this past week.
You may have read about the picture of the Virgin Mary whose lips appear to move during a prayer at a church in Sydney, Australia. A video supporting claim was taken and has, of course, gone viral. The apparent movement of the mouth of the picture is an illusions of light and motion, reinforced by the audio, but these facts can’t stop the true believers. George Akary, the man who captured the “footage” explains it for himself:
“To clarify for the viewers I saw this during mass and at the end of mass the rosary is prayed. I went to the altar and wanted to confirm via recording it … Lights are not relevant as I have seen this occur under various lighting and have considered those possibilities. It is what it is… I also did notice whilst the people were praying the lips sped up or slowed down to the prayer been said.”
A very astute observer will notice the child-Jesus’ mouth appears to move as well.
You may have also heard about the supposed alien spaceship which looks like a piece of the moon. A high quality photo of the moon reveals what appears to be a floating piece of the moon’s surface, and one genius over at ‘Before Its News’ has determined that this is sophisticated alien technology to camouflage their ship. Too bad the aliens capable of such a feat of engineering are not as smart as this fellow, who states:
“It is possible that aliens have evolved so high, that living longer is the gold of their times. So to accomplish this, they create ships and buildings that blend into the environment. This could be a ship leaving the surface, and if astronomers see it moving through space, they will believe it to be an asteroid.”
The notion that this could be a shadow being cast over the lower portion of the hill with the sunlight only reaching the hill’s cap might be too simple of a possibility for his worldview.
Finally, an appeal to antiquity in the form of a popular breakfast Cheerios. Earlier this year, General Mills released their new “Cheerios + Ancient Grains” cereal, featuring the magical ingredients of quinoa, Kamut wheat and spelt, along with the traditional oats. As explained on the back of the box:
“Quinoa, spelt, and KAMUT wheat are grains that have been around for centuries .. that’s why they’re Ancient! We did not discover them, we simply uncovered a way to deliciously enjoy them. Each grain brings a unique texture and flavor to every spoonful. Plus, Cheerios + Ancient Grains offers a great deal of health benefits with a taste your family will love!”
In case you were wondering, they “uncovered” a way to deliciously enjoy these “ancient” treats by adding 5 times as much sugar as the traditional Cheerios. Great health benefits, right?
