Pluto and Charon: Wobbly Goblins
Yay, New Horizons continues to get even closer to Pluto. It is scheduled for a flyby of 8,400km on July 14 , but in the meantime as it approaches it captured this cool video of Charon orbiting around Pluto.
Charon and Pluto rotate around a common center of mass or “barycenter,” once every 6.4 earth days. This is because the relatively large mass of Charon affects the dwarf planet more than our moon affects earth.
Pluto has four other moons, but they are all too small and faint to be visible to New Horizons at this point .
