Unless you’ve been unconscious for the past week, you know who Cecil The Lion was. Millions of people all over the world are expressing sadness and outrage at the meaningless slaughter of the noble leader of his pride. When reactions and emotions are on high, there are people looking to capitalize on the raw nerves.
Take Karen Anderson, for example. She “is a professional Animal Communicator, Psychic and Medium”. According to her website:
“She provides her clients with incredibly detailed private consultations and refers to her style of readings as an ‘Evidential Medium’ as she strives to obtain evidence and actual facts for her clients.”
Anderson clearly loves animals, but equally clear is her faith-based interpretation of reality. Whatever passes as “evidence” for her has nothing to do with scientific evidence. Regardless, she took to her Facebook page a few days ago to let the world know that she has successfully made contact with Cecil in the “afterlife”. Here is her post:
I just connected with Cecil the lion who was recently killed. I wanted to let him know how loved and honored he is. I was moved to tears to hear his words. His message is profound. He said: “Let not the actions of these few men defeat us or allow darkness to enter our hearts. If we do then we become one of them. Raise your vibration and allow this energy to move us forward. What happened does not need to be discussed as it is what it is. Take heart my child, I am finer than ever, grander than before as no one can take our purity, our truth or our soul. Ever. I am here. Be strong and speak for all the others who suffer needlessly to satisfy human greed. Bring Light and Love and we will rise above this.”
This would be amusing if it were not so insulting. Who knew a lion could be so articulate and deep in thoughts? Anderson thinks she is doing her followers a great service, when in fact she is providing a terrible disservice to not only her followers, but to people beyond her sphere of influence. Taking focus off of the topic of hunting game for sport and turning it in to a selfless promotion of her “abilities” is low.
And what happens when skeptics try to voice their disapproval on the Facebook post? What else – she deletes the posts and blocks the posters, as was brought to our attention by SGU listener Craig from Australia. Craig had posted, asking “if all recently deceased animals talk to her, or just the ones trending on Facebook?” Post deleted, user blocked, skepticism not welcome, thank you very much.
With one question, Craig hit the nail on the head. Anderson is using this incident to try and draw attention to her business. Here is a chart of some of her fees. Karen Anderson has no shame whatsoever, and while she may actually have true feelings of love and affection for animals, she clearly has none of it for her fellow human beings.
