Exorcisms to Cure Voodoo Curses
This one is in the running for “headline of the year”. From The Daily Mail, it reads: ‘I had a nest of insects inside my body, I wanted to die’: Revealed, how Italian priests are conducting EXORCISMS to break ‘voodoo spells’ put on terrified Nigerian migrant girls by traffickers who force them to work as prostitutes”
Unfortunately, this is not some Hollywood horror-movie plot. According to the article, there are estimated to be 25,000 Nigerian girls working as prostitutes in Italy and the numbers arriving rose 300 per cent in 2014. Many of them have been brainwashed and psychologically abused since a young age to believe that their “masters” have put voodoo curses upon them. One former prostitute explains:
“You are tied to them, you are tied to this oath, you are obliged to respect it. And there are those who, I don’t know how to explain it, those who command you because this oath exists. They must command you, control you, and you are obliged to respect it.”
The details of the voodoo aspects of their ordeal are as medieval as the alleged “cure” for these girls and young women. Enter The Catholic Church with their “counter-magic” measures, namely exorcisms, to get rid of the voodoo curses placed on the victims.
Basically, these individuals are trapped in a living nightmare. They are trafficked as sex slaves, with no end of physical abuses, they are mentally abused with the likes of voodoo, and the only salvation they can find lies in the bosom of Catholic priests performing exorcisms on them. All of this combined pretty much cements these victims in to a world where magic and superstition are the only “realities” these people experience.
