There is now an appropriate Wikipedia page to the man who helped push the world in a more rational direction.
We are looking for people who would like to be SGU interns. These will be flexible positions, there are no location requirements, and work will be largely on your own schedule. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about science journalism, skeptical activism, and social media including podcasting, blogging, video, managing Facebook and Twitter, writing science news reports, doing background research, managing conferences, and other special projects.
On our annual year-end wrap-up show on the SGU, we always talk about the best science news of the previous year. That’s always fun to research and reminisce. This year I thought it’d be fun to anticipate what the following year could bring in terms of big science news stories. The kind of news we’re almost certain to cover on the show in the coming months and perhaps even give special mention to in the 2015 wrap-up show.
The hosts of the SGU, together with skeptical musician George Hrab (of Geologic podcast fame) are going on a down under tour. Below is the full schedule, with information on each public appearance and how to purchase tickets if necessary.
It is always a special treat when the five of us are on the stage together. There is that extra element of being able to play off of each other’s visual cues (which we rarely have when recording at our respective homes) PLUS knowing that Steve has fewer editing possibilities adds an “edge” to these shows. So as a little homage to our very fun time at Dragon Con 2014, here are the top 5 photos I was able to snap as I busily raced around the multi-hotel complex for the better part of 3 days in downtown Atlanta, Georgia:
Have you ever known anyone Larger Than Life? That was Perry DeAngelis is every sense of that expression.
Today is the anniversary of his death, August 19th, 2007
As is true every week, there are too many news items for us to cover in one episode. Here are some of the “cuts” we had to make from Episode #468:
The SGU, together with George Hrab from the GeoLogic podcast, will be making a tour down under this Fall. We will be in Sydney, Australia November 28-30, 2014 at the Australian Skeptics National Conference. The following weekend we will be in Auckland, New Zealand December 5-7 at the New Zealand Skeptics Conference.
We can’t get to all of the items we are interested in each week, there are simply too many. Here are a few items which did not make the final list, but they’ve earned the distinction of having hit “The SGU Cutting Room Floor.”
Week of 6/14-20/2014. So many to choose from every week … but there can be only 5!
